Constitution & Bylaws Vote
As our culture increasingly embraces views of sexuality, gender, and marriage that differ from biblical teaching, church leadership recognized the need to ensure that our Constitution clearly reflects our biblical convictions and provides appropriate legal protection for the Church. As our membership and attendance continue to grow, we also anticipate a greater likelihood of encountering situations that require clarity in these areas.
For these reasons, in 2025, FRC leadership retained Reynolds Law Group, a firm specializing in church law, to conduct a comprehensive review of our existing Constitution. Through that review, it was determined that our current document did not fully comply with the North Carolina Nonprofit Corporation Act, which governs nonprofit organizations in our state. We therefore asked our attorney to both bring our Constitution into compliance with state law and strengthen its language regarding our doctrinal positions on marriage, sexuality, and gender. A detailed legal memorandum has been prepared and is available for those who would like a deeper explanation of the reasoning and supporting legal framework.
The First Reformed Church Constitution and Bylaws Revision has been unanimously approved by Consistory and is being presented to the congregation for adoption.
We encourage all members to review the materials below and participate in this important vote.
